  • Day after day the issue is going on an example like on 18 December 2020 the Supreme court decided to take with the criminal contempt court case against stand-up comedian Kunal Kamara & cartoonist Rachita Taneja and issued against them.
  • The contempt against Kamara and Taneja is based on their tweets. about the Supreme Court and its judges, the Supreme Court notice comes after consent by Attorney General K K Venugopal to regulate contempt of court cases.

Know about Contemp of court 


  • Contempt of court is the power of the court to save its own dignity and respect. this power is permanent and the power is recognized in the constitution of the high court and the supreme court. The Power is set but not cutback in the Contempt of Courts Act 1971

  • The Contempt f courts Act,1971 talks about both civil and criminal contempt. Civil contempt is wilful misconduct to any judgement of the court, while criminal contempt can be the instance if any act tends outrage or lower the authority of the court or tends to have with or choke the administration of justice.

criminal contempt is also attracted by the publication. (whether by words, spoken, or written, or by signs, or by visible 

Who can issue contempt of court 

  • Article 129 of the constitution of India empowers the supreme court.
  • Article 215 of the constitution of India empowers the high court. respectively punish people for their respective contempt.
  • Contempt of court is also defined in the constitution.

Following punishment for contempt of court?



In this Act, you may be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may be extended to six months, or with fine which may extend to two thousand rupees or both, the punishment awarded based on satisfaction of the court.

but first time in history supreme court recently fined activist-advocate Prashant Bhushan guilty of contempt of court. for two of his tweets, and fine of Re1on him but Bhushan refused to apologies. but its rule of court.
